10 Reasons Why We Love ReadytoWork

We have been working with Absa since 2012, but in 2016 we were excited to incorporate their new ReadytoWork training into our Bridging Academy programme for young adults.

ReadytoWork is an online portal that delivers young people with work skills, people skills, money skills and entrepreneurial skills so that they are better equipped to find employment or create self-employment.

Here are the 10 things that we absolutely love about this programme:

1. There is no doubt that ReadytoWork boosts the confidence of our young, rural students providing them with essential skills that are often overlooked

2. We now have 238 adults from four GWF digital learning campuses registered on ReadytoWork and all of them can work online themselves as well as offline with our trained facilitators (we are strong advocates of blended learning techniques)

3. ReadytoWork very quickly delivers “soft skills” in one online and engaging programme

4. ReadytoWork equips our students with relevant workplace communication etiquette, which many of them have very limited exposure to

5. The programme is free and online, meaning our students (who know about the programme) can tell their brothers, sisters, cousins and friends to sign up

6. In each of the programme’s modules, there are learning topics written in the form of articles that have been designed to speak to young people. At the same time as getting ready for the workplace, our students are practising their English skills. Bonus!

7. The information is bite size, which matches the learning style of young 21st Century students. According to our facilitators, the content is “young, trendy and engaging”

8. ReadytoWork supports the mission of the GWF Bridging Academy, which is to “bridge” students out of school and into further studies OR a meaningful and relevant career path

9. For facilitators, ReadytoWork is agile. It can be presented in a single day if you’re pressed for time, or, in conjunction with other material, it can supplement learning for an entire year. You decide what works for you

10. The material is relevant to individuals of all skills levels. Whether you’re a Grade 10 student who is getting ready for life after school, or a facilitator who is going to help to present ReadytoWork to young adults, the content will be impactful
