5 Behind-the-Scenes GWF Women

In today’s blog, Good Work Foundation (GWF) intern blogger, Mpho Lebyane, celebrates Women’s Day by showcasing some of the most hard-working (and often “behind the scenes”) women at GWF.

Deliwe Tibane still remembers the inception of GWF; in fact, she is proud to have been part of the team that built the GWF building at Hazyview Digital Learning Campus (HDLC). Deliwe was the only woman among tough construction men, “but I was tough too, and willing to work as hard – I needed to for my family” she says. Deliwe moved from being a constructor to a cleaner and – while working as a cleaner – she was also on the computers studying towards her International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) qualification. Today that same qualification is the reason why Deliwe is HDLC’s head of administration. She is also a member of the original Media Academy team and an English facilitator. A woman of Deliwe’s caliber deserves to be celebrated every day.

Respect Matshidiso Merahe: Respect graduated with her International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) certificate two years ago at HDLC. She is now one of two women responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of HDLC. Respect understands and values both time and education, so in the midst of her cleaning schedule, she spends her lunch time upgrading her computer skills. She’s currently studying ICDL Advanced Word Processing and hoping to add another module as soon as she is done with it. “Having a job that gets you by should never be an excuse to stop you from studying towards the job of your dreams.” Respect hopes to work as an Administrator one day.

Amukelani Nzobe is an International Computer Driving License (ICDL) course facilitator at HDLC. Amukelani was first a student of the campus and her determination landed her an opportunity to join the GWF family in 2013. She has been working at the campus for just a year and half, nonetheless, her contributions thusfar deserve to be celebrated. She is the most humble, patient and kind person whose face you will never see without a smile. Amukelani goes out of her way to ensure that GWF students really get “world class digital education” and she recently took part in a trip to our Philippolis campus to share her skills with the women who are presenting the ICDL course there.

Nikiwe Mabanga: If you are looking to dine on a well set table, Nikiwe is the woman who knows the ins and outs about hospitality training. After completing the GWF bridging year, Nikiwe was put forward by the team as a candidate to stay on owing not only to her exceptional hospitality results, but also to her ‘can do’ attitude. Today she is the Hospitality Academy Coordinator for Mpumalanga. Nikiwe never stops reminding the team about the importance of mothers and women in this world.

Yingisani Khoza is a facilitator at Madlala Digital Learning Campus (MDLC), with a focus on English. Although MDLC is located on the very edge of South Africa in a remote area, Yingisani believes in the importance of English and the importance of empowering women. .She says “women in our society must be able to ‘handle the heat’ no matter what.”
