8 Questions for Talita van Wyk

The Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour is an annual road race held in Cape Town that is usually 109km long. With as many as 35 000 cyclists taking part, this is the world’s largest individually timed cycle race.

Talita is one of the individuals who will be cycling in pink for Good Work Foundation. Here’s what she has to say:

1.      Where are you from and where do you live now?

I’m from Port Elizabeth, but I currently live in Cape Town.

2.      Is this your first Argus?

It will be my first Argus, so I’m very excited about it! I’ve done a few other events before, but I’ve never done the Argus. I’m also planning on participating in the MTB Argus the weekend before (29km & 35km).

3.      What training have you been doing and have you changed your diet?

I’m doing spinning classes in the gym twice a week and cycling outdoors over weekends. Only a few changes to my diet to keep my energy levels up.

4.      Have you been involved in a sports event for a cause before? How does it feel? Do you feel more motivated?

I haven’t done an event specifically for a cause before, but it makes me feel very honored and privileged to be part of something great!

5.      Why did you decide to ride Argus for Good Work Foundation? Is education important to you?

Good Work Foundation is extremely close to my heart. I’ve worked with them before and the changes they make in people’s lives are phenomenal. I firmly believe that education is a major cornerstone in life and everyone should have access to education.

6.      If you could give young South Africans some “life” advice, what would it be?

Life must be lived and lived to the full, so grab every great opportunity that comes your way.

7.      Who is your South African role model and why?

In loving my sport so much, I actually look up to quite a few sports people (Penny Heyns, Jacques Kallis, John Smit, Raynard Tissink, various cyclists) - the discipline, motivation and courage they have to achieve their dreams – no matter what. Also, I look up to people that make a difference in people’s lives by giving them opportunities they would’ve never had. But my true role models are my parents, my family and my friends that are very close to my heart. They are my support structure and I learn a lot from them about life - their moral values, their beliefs, and how they approach things.

8.      How do you feel about riding in pink?

It’s awesome – making a statement for Good Work Foundation – making a small contribution and being part of giving people the opportunity to education!
