T-Systems and GWF open the Hazyview Digital Learning centre (HDLC). Trevor Manuel – then Minister of South Africa’s National Planning Commission – gives the opening address. Using technology such as smart screens and iPads, as well as the skills of retired professional teachers and international volunteers, among other resources, the centre aims to offer “digital-era” literacy education and career training to school-aged and adult learners in the community.

Nedbank agrees to sponsor 15 adults learners (six-month International Computer Drivers License course) and 30 school learners (two year Open Learning Academy programme) to attend HDLC. Shortly after, ABSA Bank sponsors 70 learners to attend HDLC.
