The morning after Tata Madiba passed away, 38 volunteers from six different African high schools arrived in the Free State town of Philippolis, one of South Africa’s so-called “poverty pockets”, for a planned week of community service. The students finish work on a soup kitchen, an adult literacy hall, a store room and two vegetable gardens. They also coordinate Christmas gifts for the town’s children. Honoring Tata Madiba – what a way to end the year. Watch video.
