Foster Chiburre: A man Who Mastered Multitasking

He is the kind of guy who values and knows that family comes first. Foster Chiburre is a young man born in rural Justicia, where one of Good Work Foundation’s (GWF) campuses (Justicia Digital Learning Campus) is based.

Foster is adamant that he will channel his future towards success through studying and working hard.

His dream was to become a qualified teacher, but he didn’t have financial support to further his studies, not even a bursary. Thereafter, Foster worked a number of jobs including carpentry and a waiter at a restaurant, so he could financially support his siblings and unemployed mother as well as save up to study towards a teaching qualification one day.

One day came, and Foster registered for a Tourism Management course at one of South Africa’s colleges, but could only afford to pay for one year of the three year long course. Foster dropped out and was soon job hunting, as his family still needed his support.

Foster is now a student of GWF’s Hazyview Digital Learning Campus (HDLC) where he is acquiring the two languages of access: Digital Literacy and English, and he is a waiter at a local restaurant in Hazyview.

He has since written two International Computer Driving License (ICDL) modules and passed both with exceptional marks of 92% and 93%. Foster achieved these results regardless of his night shifts and long working hours.

‘’Studying and working at the same time is hard and challenging but I am so happy to get the opportunity to study. A lot of prioritizing like using my lunch time to attend my classes is a must if I want to one day see myself standing in front of a classroom teaching and learning with my students,” said Foster.

“This young man works, studies and looks after his mother and siblings; now that is a man who has mastered the art of multitasking,” added Marcia Pumgulimwe who is Foster’s ICDL facilitator.

GWF looks forward to seeing this young man nurture his talents and desire for educational success and will support him wherever possible.

Good luck to you Foster and keep up the good work.
