Graham Palmer’s First Hazyview Workshop

Hazyview’s A+ computing students (computer hardware and operating systems) are nearing the end of their course and, with exams looming, their minds are on the future and job prospects given their newfound knowledge and expertise.

To give them a head start Graham Palmer, a volunteer from London, has been running career workshops. Sessions include self-management, CV writing, presentation and interview techniques.

Graham has shared various tools and concepts with the group but, more importantly, he has got them to practice and role play to build their confidence.

“Especially in the mock presentations, the students surprised me” said Graham. “First-timers tend to be nervous, lacking confidence and therefore falling short on the basics such as making eye-contact or speaking clearly. The six students who presented as part of our workshop were confident and thoughtful about the information that they were sharing. We are working on a couple of improvements, but on the whole the group excelled. Hopefully these students will soon be seeing the rewards of their hard work and effort and you never know, perhaps one day giving the same sessions to future A+ graduates here at HDLC.”

In his next career workshop, Graham will be conducting mock interviews. Watch this space.

Graham Palmer is a Chartered Accountant from London who is on a one year, round-the-world, sabbatical. But this is a sabbatical with a difference. Graham intends on using his year to volunteer his time towards good causes as well as learn how to speak Spanish (on the South American leg of his trip). To follow his blog, click here.
