In Florida, Something Special is Happening

As our students in Hazyview learn how to wrap text in MS Word,

As vulnerable children from the Hosanna orphanage play scrabble on an iPad under Hazyview’s digital tree,

As our newest group of adults undergo English literacy assessments today with “Gogo” Mo Groch at Madlala and Londolozi,

As all of this happens, there is a group of special people thousands of miles away telling the Good Work Foundation story.

Terri and Michael Klauber, as well as Beth and Steve Knopik will tonight host the first ever fundraiser for the newly created All Heart Fund at Michael’s on East restaurant in Sarasota, Florida.

They have worked tirelessly over the last few months to put together an event that shares the work that we do at Good Work Foundation.

Our video will be shown to more than 200 guests. Stories from our recent graduation where 120 rural learners received their International Computer Driving Licenses will the told. Paintings that were produced in the classrooms of Madlala will be exhibited.

Terri, Michael, Beth and Steve, words will never be able to express our gratitude.

From all of us at Good Work Foundation, we send love and thanks to you and to all the selfless people who have chosen to attend tonight’s special event.

Lastly, to Leanna who inspired the All Heart Fund, our promise to you is to carry your spirit with us in all that we do.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

About Leanna Knopik

“I want to volunteer in Africa. I’ve never been so sure of something in my whole life.” – Excerpt from Leanna’s Knopik’s diary

Leanna’s time on earth was brief. At the age of 16, she passed away suddenly after contracting a rare heart infection. Despite her lost battle, she fought exceptionally hard during her final days, surprising even her physicians.

But Leanna’s heart always guided her path in life. She was very passionate about her faith and loved helping others throughout her community and beyond.  A family trip to South Africa was a life-changing experience for her.  She felt a sincere connection to the South African people and wanted to work as a missionary, helping children in schools and orphanages.

Leanna’s loving friends and family often remember her as “all heart.”

The All Heart Fund

Leanna never had the chance to volunteer in Africa, so in the spirit of her heart’s wishes, the All Heart Fund has been created to provide the resources and education necessary to enhance the lives of rural African families.

The All Heart Fund will support the Good Work Foundation, a unique South African organization founded in 2003, that focuses on delivering digital-era literacy education and career-training to people living in rural, often neglected areas. Good Work Foundation operates four Digital Learning Centers to date – including the Londolozi and Hazyview Digital Learning Centers – and has provided digital and English literacy training to over 1000, adult and children students so far in 2013.

The All Heart Fund will also create opportunities for students to travel to larger communities and cities for unique educational and leadership experiences and to connect with real-life businesses. In addition, one special student will be chosen to receive the Leanna Knopik Cup, an annual award which honors the student who demonstrates the biggest “heart”.
