Student Success: Lehlohonolo Lempetjie

Who is Lehlohonolo

Lehlohonolo Lempetjie is a 21 year old man, who was born in a small South African town called Philippolis in the Freestate province. He relocated to a Freestate suburb, Bloemfontein, for study purposes in 2011.

Educational background

Lehlohonolo started school in Philippolis when he was just 5 years old. He completed his matric there with a distinction in Science and he received a “duke student” award for having performed well in English in the class of 2011.

The young man then enrolled at a National Computer College where he achieved his computer qualification with an overall score of 86%.

With help from Kate Groch and Good Work Foundation (GWF), he then registered at the University of Freestate where he is doing his second year in BSocSc Nursing degree. “I was awarded the Best Nursing Student in the Medical Faculty 2015, for both practical and theory and the most improved student in my first year. Working in the health department has always been my passion; I wanted to be a doctor since I was a young boy, and I am most fortunate to have had GWF by my side helping me with my dream to become the best male nurse in Philippolis.”

Lehlohonolo met Kate Groch for the first time when he needed help with a speech for a public speaking competition when he was in grade nine. From there, he proved to have incredible potential. GWF, with the support from the generous donations brought in by IndependenceZA, was glad to be able to step in and help, subsidising Lehlohonolo’s studies and covering the expenses that his bursary does not cover.

Accomplishments

Lehlohonolo used to work as a part time runway model at Ultra Mode Agency from 2013-2014. He then worked with Endemol, the biggest production company in South Africa before becoming a Media Assistant for Clash of the Choirs (Bloemfontein). During his free time from his studies, Lehlohonolo does promotions, promoting brands like Flying Fish under a Johannesburg based production company.

This young man has, without a doubt, a bright future ahead of him and he is doing it all for himself . GWF would like to wish him all the best in completing his degree. Thanks Lehlohonolo for being an inspiration to so many young people.
