Student(S) of the Week: Sbusiso & Siyabonga

It is with excitement that I can make the announcement that we have not one, but two students of the week this week.

Sbusiso Mnisi (11 years old) and Siyabonga Mnisi (12 years old) are both highly-esteemed members of Hazyview’s Open Learning Academy, and have earned their rightful place in our “Student of the Week” hall of fame.

These young gentlemen have been working tirelessly to improve their English skills and – according to teaching assistant Ms. Buthelezi – they both listen attentively, follow instructions and elect to spend their time learning at the centre every afternoon of the week, barring weekends of course, where a healthy “Pirates” versus “Chiefs” soccer rivalry keeps them out of trouble.

“Sbusiso in particular is working hard to master the English language. On the tablets, he is highly competitive when it comes to playing digital Scrabble and Letter Attack”, reported Ms. Buthelezi.

When questioned about possibilities for a future occupation, both gentlemen hinted at the medical profession. “I think orthopedic surgery” said Siyabonga, “but we will have to wait and see.”

I was proud to see both “Academy Members” host Kadin Harris, a visitor from California, with all of the camaraderie and joie de vivre that is what makes learning under the tree so special.

Congratulations to both honorary members!
