Three GWF Digital Learning Campuses in Rural South Africa. All Led by African Women.

Kate Groch, our CEO, had a vision many years ago to setup dynamic digital learning campuses across South Africa, led by young people from the community where each digital learning campus was located.

Today we are beaming to announce that all three of our digital learning campuses are unique, not only because they are led by young people from within their communities, but because they are all women leaders.

Just so you know, we have hyperlinked each name so that you can follow our heads of campus on Twitter.

Head of Philippolis Digital Learning Campus, Lulani Vermeulen’s inspiration lies in her resilience. Lulani is a ‘I do what I have to do when it needs to be done’ kind of person whose tasks range from doing administrative work on a computer to planting vegetables in a garden or even laying the bricks of a building. This inspirational woman gives back to her community everyday through her tireless efforts to ensure the empowerment of women through education and employment.

Head of Hazyview Digital Learning Campus, Gay Sibuyi, is an amazing example of the saying “where you are born will not determine your destiny.” Born and raised in a rural village by a cattle herder and a food vendor, Gay has always valued hard work. Gay has been working at the Hazyview Campus since 2012 when she joined as an International Computer Driving License (ICDL) Facilitator, to the coordinator of the course for more than four years and now, head of campus. No small feat!

Head of Justicia Campus, Linky Nkuna, is a woman who grew up among powerful, empowered and independent women in the village of Justicia in Mpumalanga. Linky left her job at a world class hospitality lodge to join the education revolution in 2010. This woman had the passion to uplift her community and empower young women to believe in their worth more. Linky has since been working with amazing youth from the Justicia village and now surrounding villages who also plug into the Justicia Campus hub for digital learning. She has spread the urgency for young people to learn the languages of access (English and digital).

All of these women have believed in our mission for many years and continue to work tirelessly towards helping young women and youth as a whole to create a better tomorrow for themselves through wonder-filled learning. They are change pioneers and challenging the status quo of everything and it is amazing for GWF to be working with women of their calibre.
