Video: Di Myburgh says her final goodbye

On her last day at Good Work Foundation (GWF), we wanted Di to be able to connect with all of you. So, even though it’s not our most polished video, we have included our “Dee” – in her pink shirt – saying “goodbye for now”.

We met Di at Londolozi seven years ago. Back then she worked in hospitality and was responsible for feeding Londolozi’s staff. But Di’s eyes really lit up when she was with children (and at Londolozi she was often draped in children).

“Di exudes happiness and love and people of all ages are naturally drawn to her. At any given time at Londolozi, you would find Di surrounded by little happy people, with Maya leading the pack” says Kate Groch. “It was obvious to all of us that Di had to stop counting cabbages and start counting children instead. That has become our running joke. Three years ago Di joined GWF full-time and it has been a joy to watch her grow into a space she was meant to fill.

Di Myburgh is passionate about early childhood development. She managed 12 preschools supported by Good Work Foundation, including the Londolozi Digital Preschool, and was pivotal in GWF’s mission to bring digital education to preschools in rural South Africa.

Go well Di! Thank you for all you have contributed. Continue to count children – NOT cabbages! We send you off with heavy hearts but with joy for all the new lives you will touch. We will follow your path with interest and always be proud that it began here with GWF.”

We love you Di!

We love you Di!

“I have lived my dream” said Di at a very teary “farewell for now” braai at Hazyview Digital Learning Centre. “It is not everyone who gets to go to work and play with children and glitter everyday!”

I leave you with Di’s favourite quote:

“A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account looks like, the sort of house I live in or the kind of car I drive. But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.” – Unknown
